Use the Five Core Propositions - All Day...Every Day!

1. Teachers are committed to students and their learning.

All the little things you do every day - this is committment to your students and their learning.  Coming in early, going to conferences, doing what it takes to get the message across to your students. What are the little things you do?

3. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.

We are not talking state test here, this is a real indication of how your students are learning. How do you know your students are learning? What comes next? How do you know when to move on? What are you doing this lesson at this time with these students?

5. Teachers are members of learning communities.
Cohorts, professional development groups, the lounge - these are all examples of learning communities.  Another learning community is your national board support center - we are here to help you in your journey to certification!

2. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects.
Textbook physics is nice but what about some funny videos? It is not enough to know your content area - how do you convey that knowledge to your students.

4. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from their practice.

We do this all the time - how did my lesson go? What went well? What didn't go well? Why did things go well (or why didn't they go well)? What is your criteria for an effective lesson?
